HRB® – Hollow Rock Bolt
The HRB® bolt is a Hollow Steel Bolt used in resin or grout installations, typically in hard rock mines where larger diameter support holes are drilled. The 27mm HRB® bolt is typically used with 34mm, 36mm and 38mm diameter holes. This ensures that the correct ratio between hole diameter and bar diameter (annulus) is achieved. The HRB® bolt has a tensile strength of 135 kN and is manufactured in most standard lengths. In narrow stope heights, the bolt can be supplied with a coupler to facilitate the installation process. The HRB® bolt can be galvanized or DiSTeK™ coated if required.
Katbar®
Mining-specific rebar has been developed to improve on the performance of conventional rebar in mine rock reinforcement applications.
Katbar® may be used with mechanical anchoring and / or grouting, especially where re-tightening of the anchor is required.
Katbar® is hot rolled during the manufacturing process with a surface geometry that provides a continuous coarse-pitch twin-start thread. This alleviates the need to separately roll a thread onto the bar, and the bar may be simply cut to length.
During use, fully threaded bar overcomes the limitations of a finite thread and is applied where re-tensioning of the installation is required (such as rock scaling) or where insertion depth is inconsistent.
Katbar® is compatible with cementatious grout, chemical resin, mechanical anchoring or combinations of these. Katbar® is supplied assembled. Assemblies vary in the choice of bar diameter and length, washer type and size, nut and seat as well as in the provision of load indicators, nibs and mechanical expansion shells.
Mechanical Anchored Rock Bolts (Roof Bolts)
Rock Bolts / Studs are mechanically point anchored within the rock using 3 leaf bail-type expansion shells attached to the inserted end of the bolt. Expansion shells are supplied screwed onto the end of the rock tendon and are inserted into the hole. When tension is applied to the tendon the tapered plug within the shell forces the leaves to move outwards, thus wedging them against the walls of the borehole. This means that the mechanical bolt is functional immediately on installation. In many applications the installation is post-grouted for additional stability. The complete rock bolt assembly includes the threaded bar, bearing plate (washer), nut, seat and expansion shell. Numerous combinations are available to suit individual strata control requirements. These include:
- Bar Type
- Bar diameter
- Thread type
- Expansion Shell size
- Washer Profile
- Washer Dimensions
All round and deformed bar (ribbed bar) used for mechanical anchors is high tensile (minimum 480 MPa) steel hot rolled in accordance with SABS 920. Step Bar® and Katbar® are specifically designed for mining applications (please refer to the individual Product Information Sheets for more detail).
Resin Anchored Rock Bolts
Rock bolt assemblies for resin anchoring (chemical anchoring) comprise the stud, nut, bearing plate washer and a selection of accessories and modifications which can be configured to suit particular installation and rock support requirements. Rock bolt assemblies are packaged as complete, ready-to install units.
Friction Anchors (Split Sets)
The Friction Anchors can be installed with either hand held or mechanized equipment (jumbos, roof bolters, etc.) to provide an immediate frictional rock support at the face. For additional corrosion protection, Friction Anchors can be galvanized or thermally zinc diffused with a DiSTek™ coating. Our Friction Anchors are made from high tensile steel, roll formed into open slotted tubes. Driving the high tensile steel tube into a hole with diameter smaller than the tube diameter generates a radial force on the rock. This results in a frictional resistance to the pull-out of the tube from the hole.
A steel ring is fixed to the collar end of the tube to retain a bearing plate (washer).
Pig Tail Eyebolts
Pigtail Eye Bolts are used mainly to suspend underground services such as pipes and conduits. Pigtail Eye Bolts are secured by means of a mechanical expansion shell.
Flexible Eyebolts & Wedges
Flexible eyebolts are used mainly to rig underground snatch blocks and pulleys. Wedges secure the eyebolt in the hole. Flexible eyebolts are available with either round eyes or link lock eyes (“Cobra”).
RocLoc® Timing Light – RTL
The RocLoc® Timing Light is designed to assist mining personnel with the installation of RocLoc® Resin capsules to ensure that the appropriate spin and hold times are adhered to. Standard units are pre-set to comply with standard spin and hold times; however we are able to customize the timing intervals to suit a customer’s specific requirements.
RocLoc® Resin Capsules
RocLoc® Resin capsules are a two compartment capsule with the outer sheath made from polyester film. The one compartment contains the resin mastic and the other compartment contains the catalyst paste. The insertion and rotation of a roof bolt breaks the sheath and al lows the resin and catalyst to be mixed. This thixotropic compound sets after a specified setting time and creates a chemical bond between the anchor and the strata.
Application
RocLoc® Resin Capsules are used in conjunction with roof bolts and cable anchors to provide support in underground excavations. Installations can be done with either hydraulic or pneumatic type bolters.

Collision Avoidance Systems – HazardAvert® Proximity Detection
With the development of the HazardAvert ® system and working in partnership with the Mine Safety teams to reduce crushing and pinning type fatal accidents. The HazardAvert® was the first Proximity Detection System approved by MSHA. Using a Magnetic Marker Field, HazardAvert ® systems alert miners of danger areas as they work and navigate around with heavy equipment and their inherent danger zones, and with selected systems, can automatically slow down or stop the machines should miners be in a position of imminent threat. It has been successfully tested and in operation on various types of underground equipment such as continuous miners, as well as surface vehicles including haul trucks, forklifts and drag lines.
- Low Frequency Dynamic Marker Fields allow many personnel and machines to operate together without conflict or nuisance alarms.
- Shaped Field Technology allows larger marker fields where needed, and smaller fields in places that could create nuisance alarms. Multiple system configurations allow HazardAvert® to be effective on any machine or vehicle.
Not only are the HazardAvert® systems tough, they are also reliable and easy to operate, promoting their use amongst workers. If you have equipment that moves, HazardAvert® addresses the dangers involved to promote safety awareness, and to integrate seamlessly into your current safety strategies. There is no limit to the number of workers or vehicles that can be outfitted.

Rescue Gas Bottles – Dräger PSS® BG 4
Introduction
The Dräger PSS® BG 4 is a closed-circuit Breathing Apparatus which is independent of the surrounding air and particularly suited for long-term assignments in a toxic environment. Soda lime absorbs the carbon dioxide in the exhaled air and oxygen is constantly added and not guided outside – such as in breathing apparatus with pressure gauge – but kept within the circuit. Depending on job performance, the duration of use is up to four hours. For oxygen supply, compressed oxygen is used.
High-Performance Soda Lime
Drägersorb 400 has been especially designed for the absorption of CO2 in closed-circuit breathing apparatus. It contributes significantly to the long-term safeguarding of performance capability, especially under the expected conditions of use of the Dräger PSS BG4 Plus. Drägersorb 400 is characterised by a very high abrasion resistance and can therefore be used in the apparatus for 6 months or, if stored in the vehicle, over a distance of 500 kilometres.
Easy Maintenance
The Dräger PSS® BG4 can be assembled and disassembled quickly and conveniently without tools.
All Features at a glance
The breathing apparatus is equipped with the fully electronic warning and signal unit Bodyguard® II. It provides the wearer with important information, such as cylinder pressure, remaining duration of use, or temperature during the assignment. The information is presented visually and acoustically. The data registered by Bodyguard® II can be transmitted to the Dräger PSS® Merlin monitoring panel in connection with an optional transmitter unit.

VF Froth Pumps
General Overview:
Boost your Froth Pumping Levels with the froth pump that has been designed to ensure high efficiency with minimal maintenance. The application areas include Mineral Mining Process Plants, Pulp, Paper, Sewage and Effluent.
Design Background:
When it came to the design of our Froth Pump, the main concern was reducing the froth factor considerably. We achieved this by creating a larger settling area in the tank, through the addition of a spiral and increased the vortex finder size.
- The spiral increases the surface area inside the tank and reduces the travel distance of the escaping air.
- The spiral induces cyclonic flow from the feed pipe to the impeller eye notwithstanding the low mass of the froth.
- The spiral also prevents the liquid climbing the tank wall and this energy is diverted in feeding the slurry into the impeller.
Pump Characteristics:
- Built-in vortex breaker in the inlet (suction) boosts efficiency by ensuring that the media reports to the impeller eye.
- Deflector plate housed within the tank prevents the formation of a vortex, swilling and spillage.
- The cantilever design shaft enables the pump to operate without submerged shaft seals, bearings or stuffing box.
- Large capacity tank allows for breaking down of froth.
- Pumps are supplied as free standing integrated units. Simple to install. No foundations or alignment required.
- South African designed and manufactured, resulting in a pump that operates under the most arduous conditions.
- Discharge position can be rotated through 360º.
- Open top design prevents air blocking.
- Pump can run dry for long periods without damage.

VALVES
Diaphragm Valves
Our diaphragm valves are specified in a wide range of applications; from abrasive slurries to water treatment and general industrial applications.
Straight Orifice Diaphragm Valves
Valve Design:
Careful design and the use of quality materials assure a long useful life of our Diaphragm Valve. The straight-through type passage of the Type “SO” valves ensures minimum restriction when the valve is open, thus giving maximum flow to even the densest fluids. There are two body alternatives available namely:
- Straight screwed bodies from 25 mm (1″) to 80 mm (3″)
- Straight flanged bodies from 25 mm (1″) to 350 mm (14″) (Flanges are drilled to your requirements)
A choice of hand wheel or chain wheel operated valves (with or without guides) is available. The diaphragm, which is made from raw materials to suit the fluids handled, completely isolates the bonnet assembly from the body of the valve, thus ensuring protection of the compressor and spindle from being damaged by abrasive and corrosive fluids.
Valve Performance and Valve Application:
The excellent flow characteristics achieved with the “SO” Diaphragm Valve ensures trouble-free performance even when handling thicker fluids, such as sludge and slurries. This proven system of controlling fluids together with a robust and simple construction makes for minimum maintenance downtime. Designed for easy maintenance, the entire bonnet/diaphragm assembly can be withdrawn by simply loosening the bonnet nuts, thus leaving the valve body and pipe work in place. The “SO” Diaphragm Valve has a wide range of applications in industry some examples are:
- Foodstuffs
- antibiotics
- effluents
- commercial vacuum duties
All parts are independently manufactured and are interchangeable with other types of diaphragm valves.

A choice of hand-wheel or chain-wheel operated valves (with or without guides) are available. The diaphragm, which is made from raw materials to suit the fluids handled, isolates the moving mechanism from the fluids, thus ensuring protection of the compressor and spindle from being damaged by abrasive and corrosive fluids.
Valve Performance and applications:
Our Diaphragm Valve has an application in almost every industry. This proven system of controlling fluids together with high performance and trouble-free use in continuous application ensures minimum maintenance downtime. Designed for easy maintenance, the entire bonnet/diaphragm assembly can be withdrawn by simply loosening the bonnet nuts, thus leaving the valve body and pipe work in place. All Diaphragm Valve parts are independently manufactured and are interchangeable with other types of diaphragm valves.
Valve Features:
Flexible, reinforced diaphragm.
Operating mechanism protected from corrosion.
Compressor ensures tight closure.
Robust construction.
Positive isolation of valve mechanism.
Streamlined fluid flow.
Parts are interchangeable.
Valve Advantages:
100% SA. Manufacture.

Pinch Valves
Careful design and the use of quality materials assure a long useful life of the “Open Frame Pinch Valve”. The straight through type passage of the pinch valve ensures minimum restriction when the valve is open, this giving maximum flow to even the densest fluids. There are two lengths of body available for the 200 diameter and above. Flanges are drilled to BS, SANS or ISO specification to suit customer requirements. The sleeve, which is made from raw materials to suit the fluids handled, is available in the working pressure range from 600kPa (6 Bar) to 2500kPa (25Bar). The frame can be supplied in either a full mild steel or stainless steel construction dependent on the environmental conditions and type of fluid being.
Performance and applications:
The excellent flow characteristics achieved with our “pinch” valve ensure trouble-free performance even when handling thick fluids such as sludge’s and slurries. This proven system of controlling fluids together with the simple robust construction makes for minimum downtime. Designed to ease of maintenance, the sleeve is replaceable on site.
The Sleeve is the only component that comes into contact with the medium being transported. It is heat/pressure molded from flexible natural or synthetic rubber type materials in layers with inter-layer reinforcement to provide strength/pressure resistance and stability.
Working pressure ratings of up to 2500kPa are available. We would not recommend that the Open Frame Pinch valve be used in areas where delicate equipment or personnel could be exposed to corrosive fluids in the unlikely event to sleeve failure. The “Closed frame pinch valve” would better suite such applications.
Electro-mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and or manually operated gearbox assisted actuation of our pinch valve is available dependent on application and pressure rating.
The open frame pinch vale has a wide range of application in industry. The can vary from acids to food-stuffs, antibiotics to effluents and commercial vacuum duties.
